Is Rupert Murdoch really the kindly Wizard of Oz?
If you remember the story, the kindly old man of Oz used bigger than life voices, bells, and whistles to guide the young Kansas heroine Dorothy and her dog Toto and her new friends, the Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man, and the Scarecrow through a series of adventures. When challenged, each acts to prove she or he had
the qualities she or he felt were lacking within.
To his credit, Murdoch through FoxNews has given those in the center and right of the political spectrum a forum in which to speak and express their thoughts and opinions. Harold Meyerson in "The rage Murdoch wrought" (The Washington Post, 01-19-2011), labels these equally worthy political perspectives "paranoid fantasies". Obviously, a left of center "liberal" denying free speech to the opposition, Meyerson, in failing to admit that there are other viewpoints, becomes a censor masquerading as a defender of freedom and democracy.
Silenced Voices become shrill, less reasonable. Unreasonable speech may spawn agressive, even violent activities. The "leftwing", has long been known for violence through The FALN, The Black Panthers and other left radical groups. Socialist/communist ethnic and racial movements in the US and internationally espouse violent overthrow of governments and societies.
In the US these "revolutionary groups", many of whose leaders have spent a considerable amount of time in prison, have been taught a "passive-aggressive" style. Educators, psychologists and lawyers have taught the formerly agressively violent to assume a passive-aggressive style, then involved them in government, social welfare groups, and government-subsidized business.
The "Revolution will not be televised" means the revolutionaries now take money and power from "non-like-minded" taxpayers, who do not agree, in trade-offs with politicians and government-affiliated bureaucrats who trade money and "grant programs" for votes for themselves and their political party.
At the risk of sounding like FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, the revolutionaries have infiltrated the US government. Left-wing revolutionaries take power and money, under the guise of social welfare programs, in a "false social justice" or "false consciousness", taking from those who have no more than themselves, who have struggled in the mainstream American paths for success.
The problem really is not education. The problem is some people respect others and the property and money achieved through efforts and hard work. And some do not.
The other problem is, there really are inequities. Mean people take from nice people. Greedy people take from fair people. This is true within and beyond all racial and ethnic groups. Grants to discuss the inequities do not solve the problem. Such grants provide a few jobs for those whose grant proposals are successful.
But back to Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch, who initially was known as a wealthy Australian with pornography connections. He cleaned up his image with the acquisition of The Wall Street Journal and other mainstream American media companies.
Murdoch is a businessman, in the business of making profits. Controversy, "yellow journalism", and "suggestive" light pornography sells.
Murdoch does pay society commentators like Glenn Beck and aspiring politicians like Sarah Palin to become news and views speakers on FoxNews. These commentators and politicians then are bound to an exclusive contract with FoxNews or must involve FoxNews to negotiate with other news companies to do significant "outside" interviews, book sales, and other activities. Politicians must leave FoxNews when they formally announce their candidacies for political office.
"Left" media also reward their proponents with column inches, exposure, forms of publicity. Some probably also pay for articles, essays, and other commentary.
Does Murdoch have another agenda? Quite likely. Murdoch's major partner in Newscorp, "parent" corporation of FoxNews, is Saudi Arabian Prince Al-Ahweed, a financier of the the 911/World Trade Center Mosque and many Al-Qaida connected funding enterprises in New York, the Washington DC area, other areas in the US and around the world.
Al-Ahweed is a member or promoter of a "fundamentalist" Saudi Arabian Sunni Muslim group. Mohammed Atta, and other World Trade Center al-Qaida plane bombers, professed their allegiance to this group and offered their lives in suicide bombings and other violent Jihad acts to create the World Caliphate of Muslimism.
Murdoch has helped spread the rage of fundamentalist Muslim violence in America. FoxNews presents vengeful news and commentary revealing the deep anger of Islam. Fox also allows US "acting out" on FoxNews alongside news and interviews of people involved in American politics. Many viewers are "excitable" and buy "exciting" stories on cable and other networks in a display of "See US citizens 'act out' too".
There is anger in the US. There are worsening financial and economic troubles for even the most serious and hardworking. US citizens usually early learn to discuss the issues to solve the problem and defuse the violence before it occurs. The number of scams, many related to government-sponsored school, business, and mortgage loans, increase as the economy dips, as those with "access" grab for cash from the naive.
If the "right" is more shrill, the "left" cannot be absolved of guilt for not allowing those who believe in individual effort and achievement to speak and have a vote in determining political and government-sponsored, taxpayer-funded social policy in the US.
In a sense, FoxNEws becomes a foil for the "left". Provoking shrill and unreasonable speech on the "right", makes it appear that the "left" has taken the "high road". But the "left" is draining the money and energy of those who have achieved by individual effort.
Government under The Constitution of the US is based on the vote of each individual. The socialist/communist dictum "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need", as judged by the Courts or any other governmental-appearing group, is antithetical to the survival of the American Democracy.
A "false need" is insatiable. A "false need" drains the "ability", money and every other resource of those who try everyday to succeed. The current state of our economy is a testimonial to this phenomena in the current USA.
